A CHRISTMAS message from Deputy Mayor of Wellington Dave Mitton.

“I AM writing this message as the Mayor Gloria Copley is at present in hospital recovering from an operation.

Everyone on the town council sends Gloria best wishes and hopes that she has a speedy recovery.

The council wishes everyone in Wellington a happy Christmas and New Year and to extend a welcome to all newcomers to our town.

Each year we produce a town guide which is packed full of useful information. If you haven’t received a copy, please call into our office at 28 Fore Street or visit our website www.wellingtontowncouncil.co.uk

It was wonderful that so many people came to our switch-on of the Christmas lights this year. It was a great way to start the Christmas season and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the event.

Organisations in the town also hold other events during the year of which we can be proud as a community.

May Day, at our award-winning park followed by a summer programme of music organised by the Friends of Wellington Park, was attended by more people than ever.

The Street Fair held in aid of the Wellington Carnival was the best ever and we had a spectacular September with the Food Town Festival, Wellington Boot Throwing Competition and the carnival itself.

Christmas is a time for family but we should spare a thought for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Take a look at the Somerset County Council’s winter guide which can be accessed through our website and in particular the Snow Code.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.”
