Bridgwater students to benefit from Futures for Somerset funding
TWO applications totalling over £650 have been accepted by a fund which supports enhanced education opportunities for young people in Bridgwater.
Futures for Somerset’s Access for All Fund granted the cash for students of the Elmwood and Penrose Federation who attend The Jean Rees Centre based at Chilton Trinity.
It is a post-16 provision for students with additional learning needs. Some of the students are wheelchair users who learn through a sensory based curriculum.
The funding will support a visit to Bristol to go ice skating and to have a celebratory Christmas lunch together.
Liz Hayward, executive head teacher at the Elmwood and Penrose Federation said: “This funding will give us a fantastic opportunity for our students to work together on a fun activity.
“We are always looking for experiences that will support our students working together and we are delighted that this funding has been agreed, it will be a great day for all those involved.”
The funding has also allowed for the Link Centre Pupil Referral Unit, for students who are unable to attend school for health related reasons, to visit Cannington Activity Centre five times during one term to complete team building activities. The final session will be an offsite activity such as canoeing.
