Minehead Girls Brigade celebrates 60 happy years
8:00pm Monday 14th October 2013 in Somerset
MINEHEAD Girls Brigade is celebrating 60 years of fun and friendship this month.
The celebrations start with a reunion for past girls on Sunday, October 19, with a fish and chip supper, entertainment and a chance to reminisce with old friends.
The supper takes place at the Baptist Church and will be followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday, October 20, at 10am.
There will also be a parade and parade service on October 20, starting at the seafront at 3pm, followed by a celebration tea.
Past and present members of the brigade are invited to take part in the celebrations.
The chaplain of the 1st Minehead Girls Brigade Company, the Rev Tim Langdon, said:“All the celebrations serve to highlight the huge impact the Minehead Girls Brigade has had over generations of girls in our community.
“It’s great to see the continuation in the present company of the fun, friendship and enduring Christian message the brigade communicates.”
The party feel continues later this year with ‘Girls Night out’ on Friday, November 29, 7.30pm at the Regal Theatre, Minehead – an inspiring and entertaining night out for women of all ages, fronted by Carrie Grant, presenter on BBC1’s The One Show with award winning comedienne Jo Enright.
The evening will be a fundraiser for the work of World Vision, and Carrie and Jo will talk about their work with the organisation.
There’s even a complimentary goody bag in celebration of 60 years of the Girls’ Brigade in Minehead and 120 years in the UK.
Places for the fish and chip supper need to be reserved by calling Sue Bowmer on 01643-703249 or Audrey King on 01643-818239, or emailing GB1stMinehead@hotmail.co.uk.
