Fitting memorial for Mr Cannington - Maurice Locke
FAMILY and friends of Maurice Locke, known locally as “Mr Cannington”, have unveiled a globe in his memory.
Mr Locke was chairman of Cannington Parish Council at the time of his death in April last year, at the age of 68.
The globe was designed by his daughter, Caroline, and was unveiled at Jubilee Gardens in the village by his wife, pat, son Anthony, and Caroline.
The dedication was given by Rev Peter Martin, the rector of Cannington.
Mr Locke was for many years a village police officer in Cannington, and when he retired, he set up a painting and decorating business and many of the village houses bear testament to his skills.
He was responsible for the setting up of the local village magazine, ‘The Target’, which still publishes today, and he was involved in setting up the sports field in the village and also in the creation of Jubilee Gardens.
As well as serving as chairman of the parish council and being actively involved in discussions about Hinkley Point C, and the impact it could have on the village, Mr Locke served on many village and church committees, including as a church warden and treasurer to the parochial church council.
