Serious assault in West Street in Bridgwater

AN ambulance service spokesman confirmed the victim was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, with "a number of injuries".
Neither police nor the ambulance service have confirmed the victim suffered a stab wound or wounds, but the Mercury understands this is the case.
The ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called at 6.26pm to attend a patient, who was subsequently taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, arriving there at 7.10pm, with a number of injuries."
THE Mercury understands last night's incident was completely unrelated to Bridgwater Fair.
We have also been informed that Sedgemoor District Council staff, who were in West Street at the time, were among the first on the scene and helped until emergency crews arrived.
There have been one or two rumours that the Bridgwater Fair has been/will be closed this afternoon.
Sedgemoor District Council has confirmed this is not the case.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the victim is a man in his 30s.
The spokesman said: "We received reports at 6.30pm last night of an assault inside a flat in West Street.
"The victim is a man in his 30s.
"He has serious but not life-threatening injuries.
"An investigation has begun and a man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
"The scene remains cordoned off."
Police have not said whether they believe the incident was connected in any way to Bridgwater Fair.
Anybody with information about the attack should call police on 101.
This is what Avon and Somerset Police tweeted a short time ago.
"Yesterday there was a serious assault in West Street, #bridgwater. We’ve arrested a man and the scene remains cordoned off."
