THOUSANDS of visitors are expected to pack out Taunton Racecourse this weekend for the first Somerset Military Tattoo.
Up to 10,000 people could attend the event on Saturday, which will feature a visit by the Wildcat Helicopter, which is one of the latest generation of aircraft.
The event aims to raise sizeable amounts for ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity which provides financial assistance to all soldiers and their families when they are in need.
Nigel Muers-Raby, of event sponsors Pardoes Solicitors, said: “This promises to be a wonderful event for all the family and will also raise money for such a worthy cause."
One of the attractions on the day is the Wildcat helicopter which is the latest generation of multi-role helicopter produced by Agusta Westland.
The aircraft is just entering service with both the Army and the Royal Navy, so will be a really special treat for the crowds to see.
Other superb attractions are also lined up, including the Military Wives’ Choir, the Avon & Somerset Constabulary Horse Display Team, a ‘Naval Gun Run’ and falconry shows.
The Pipes and Drums of the Wessex Highlanders are also part of the entertainment, as are the Somerset Army Cadet Force Silver Bugles and the RAFA Band.
Organisers hope for it to become an annual event.
Ticket prices Adults are £6 in advance, £8 on the day while children 12 and under and parking are free.
The Gates open at 10.30am, with the performances starting at 11.30am.
