Nether Stowey charity shop Books for Life set up website
3:30pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in Somerset
A CHARITY shop based in Nether Stowey which helps disabled, orphaned and abused children has set up a website to keep up with modern shoppers.
As reported, the Books for Life organisation had to give up its store in Eastover in 2012 after the landlord said they needed the property.
Trustee Mervyn Todd was left to home 20,000 books and a desperate search for a new building followed.
But the charity, which still operates from its previous building at 12 St Mary Street, Nether Stowey, has now established a website.
He told the Mercury: “The charity has been established for 14 years, supporting organisations in Africa and Aisa that have a proven record of excellence and care.
“By setting up the website we can still sell items to fund new projects and support existing ones.
“We take on the responsibility for the care and education of the children until they have enough qualifications to secure a job with a salary which will support them in the future.
“We fund a ‘complete package’ of educational materials, uniforms, medical care and food for the children.”
Local purchases from the website, www.mybooks4life.co.uk, can be collected from the Nether Stowey shop.
