THESPIANS from Barrington scooped an impressive array of performance award nominations and a top accolade for their pantomime, Snow White.

Barrington Players, established in 2006 and operating out of the village hall, attended a ceremony at Westland Leisure Complex in Yeovil with more than 400 people representing nearly 30 panto groups for the annual Somerset Fellowship of Drama Cinderella Trophy Awards for Pantomime.

The awards help to promote best practice in panto production and recognise and encourage talent.

Barrington Players were runners-up and received the Spotlight Award for best production by a non-theatre society.

They were also invited to present entertainment at the ceremony in the form of a cameo piece from the panto.

The Players also received an unprecedented 18 nominations – for Angus Crosbie, Joel Baker, Rosie Blows, Ian Smith, Peter Card, David Clifton, John Perry, Sue Applegate and Bryan Hallett – and were nominated for best sound effects and best village design.

Chairman Gill Clifton, who was thrilled to be presented with the runner-up Spotlight Shield, said: “This is a testament to the undoubted talent of our cast and the production team.

“Our thanks go to Bryan Hallett, our director, and John and Lucy Perry for musical direction and choreography.

“We’ve come such a long way since our first steps in August, 2006, and we look forward to running workshops during the autumn, growing our membership and producing more pantomimes and plays in the future.”

They will also be running a French-style Allo Allo Cafe at Victoria Farm on Barrington Village Day TODAY (Saturday, July 6).
