KINGS College cricketers were the first English team to tour Sri Lanka and remain unbeaten for 21 years.

A squad of 26 cricketers and four staff spent two weeks in Sri Lanka and the under-17s side were undefeated in six games.

The Junior U16 side won an impressive three out of six games and improved dramatically over the tour.

Both teams were lucky enough to play at a test match ground and there was also a huge amount of individual success for a number of our top players.

The tour was focussed in the two main cities of Colombo and Kandy.

Director of cricket Phil Lewis said: “While we were there to play a high standard of cricket in the most testing conditions, we also managed to learn about the culture and dynamics of the fantastic country.

“We visited the Kandyan Temple of the Tooth (a huge Buddhist temple), a tea making factory and plantation, a spice garden, an elephant sanctuary, and even got to try out our bartering skills at a local shopping market.

“The two weeks we spent their taught us about life in Sri Lanka, how to appreciate what we have and how to build new friendships.

“Both teams learned a huge amount on the cricket field, playing against some quality Sri Lankan cricketers and most importantly everyone in the squad had an unforgettable experience.”
