A RETIRING teacher who has notched up a total of 37 years at one school says if the clock was turned back he’d happily do it all again.

Gareth Williams has left Chilton Trinity, where he has held numerous roles, including his most recent position as assistant head teacher.

Gareth joined in 1976 as a PE teacher and later took on roles involving pastoral support, special educational needs and supporting several head teachers.

He was also a key driving force behind the new £23million school complex, which opened in November.

He said: “With the move into the school and the subsequent demolition of the much loved old school complete, it is the right time for my retirement.

“There is an exciting vision for the future here with our new head teacher and school building and it is now time for the younger generation of staff to take over.

“The privilege of working with young people as they have moved through the school has been a delight; their humour, excuses and their successes have contributed to a really rewarding career.

“If I was starting out again I would choose the same path – as long as it was at Chilton Trinity.”

He added: “I have had wonderful support from my wife and family who have supported me throughout my work, including my frequent absences from home due to late meetings, school residential trips or training weekends etc.

“In my retirement I will be able to ‘repay’ some of that support, starting with a list of long overdue building and decorating jobs, my daughter’s wedding in June and time with my son who has offered to introduce me to the thrills of hitting a golf ball!”

Gareth, Congratulations on your retirement, what a fantastic end to a long distinguished Career. I know that your Students thought highly of you, over all those years.
To cap it all, also Wales won the rugby last weekend, which caused great Pleasure to yourself, and as a true English supporter, great distress to myself and comrades on this side of the Severn.
Gareth , Enjoy your deserved retirement from teaching, I'm sure you will be getting involved in other projects in the Community.
So Gareth & Gill, All our Best wishes to you both from David & Margaret Preece. See u Soon.

No doubt many pupils passed through this school"s doors, and went to work (or a life of leisure) in the world, depending on their fate. Did any one of them go on do do anything noteworthy, or anything fundamentally inmproving to the world we live in? Be interesting to know. Same for all of the other schools in this area.

Gareth's contribution to the school and wider community has been substantial; including his work on the Building Schools for the Future Project; which has been incredible. He will be greatly missed.

No doubt. However, even our own Government think-tanks have recently announced that this country is now up the creek, because we have a serious lacked of trained specialists in many important fields, and the few we have will retire and not be replaced. We do not know how to build a new nuclear power station, as an example. Our bright youngsters have studied Michael Mouse subjects at University level, Media Studies, Fashions, etc - what went wrong???
