A FUNDING pot of £50,000 has been made available to help communities deliver library services across Somerset.

The grant was obtained by Somerset County Council as part of the Community Enablement Fund, which has awarded over £300,000 to community and voluntary groups since its launch last year.

It is hoped the funding will be bid for by organisations including town and parish councils to explore how improvements could be made to library spaces to make them more accessible for other community uses.

Cllr David Huxtable, SCC's cabinet member for resources with responsibility for the Community Enablement Fund, said: “It's been fantastic to see that there are so many community based organisations in Somerset that are eager to get involved in the delivery of services in their own communities.

“I'm delighted that this fund has allowed us to support them to do just that.”

Why not fund the libraries properly in the first place?
