ORGANISERS of the Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon on Sunday, April 7, expect a surge of runners signing up over the coming week.

More than 1,000 have already registered for the event ahead of next Friday’s deadline – entry forms are available at www.tauntonmarathon.co.uk from Tony Pryce Sports, Blackbrook Pavilion, the Wellsprings Centre and the Tourist Information Centre, in Taunton, or at Wellington Sports Centre.

Participants will raise tens of thousands of pounds for good causes, including this year’s nominated charity, Somerset Sight – to support the organisation contact Becky Fry on 01823-366147 or e-mail becky@somersetsight.org.uk The race, sponsored by law firm Ashfords LLP and Exeter-based Ironbridge Runner, starts at Somerset College, goes through Taunton town centre, heads to Norton Fitzwarren and goes through Oake, Bradford-on-Tone and Bishop’s Hull before finishing at the college. The full marathon covers two laps of the same course.

Younger or less-enthusiastic runners can take part in the Taunton Fun Run around the college, either over 1,400 metres on hard ground or 2km including a section on grass – entries can be made on the same form and will be taken on race-day morning at the college.
