A CELEBRATION event was hosted by West Somerset Community College as the ‘Lab in a Lorry’ pulled up at its gates in Minehead.
The mobile physics lab for young people, run by the Institute of Physics (IOP) and funded by EDF Energy, is on a three-month tour of Somerset schools.
It is designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers through interactive hands-on experiments.
James Bamford, Lab in a Lorry coordinator in Somerset, said: “The tour so far has been a huge success and that is set to continue.
“We’ve been inundated with requests from schools across the region and, if the reception we’ve had so far is anything to go by it’s clear that many students have a real appetite for it.”
Ian Liddell-Grainger MP, David Eccles of EDF Energy and college principal Gaynor Comber all spoke at the event, before enjoying a tour of the unique lorry.
Schools can request a visit from Lab in a Lorry through www.labinalorry.org.uk which also contains information on how to become a volunteer.
