Paige's charity walk raises over £2,000
THE proceeds of a sponsored walk along the cycle path from Ilminster to Chard and back have been presented to charity.
The walk was the brainchild of Paige Rawle, now 14, of Ilminster, who wanted to do something after a terrible motorbike accident left her uncle, George Pas, in a wheelchair.
In July, 2011, George, a Territorial Army platoon sergeant, suffered horrific injuries in the smash near Weston-super-Mare, breaking his back in seven places and smashing an eye socket.
Paige was so inspired by her uncle’s determination to get on with his life despite the challenges he now faces that she wanted to do something, so she came up with the sponsored walk.
About 40 family, friends and supporters joined Paige on the walk last April, and she has now handed over a cheque for £2,083.75 to the Rifles Regimental Trust and its Care for Casualties appeal, which helps to provide welfare and support for casualties.
