Former Mayor Christine Booth dies

A FORMER mayor of Burnham and Highbridge has died, aged 82.

Mrs Christine Booth was a former town and district councillor, and mayor in the late 1970s, as well as being a former head teacher of Northmoor Green Primary School in Moorland.

Mrs Booth and husband Ron moved to Highbridge from Yorkshire in the late 1940s before they emigrated in 1990 to Australia, where she passed away on Sunday.

Fellow Liberal Democrat Rosemarie Parsons, a former county councillor for Highbridge and Burnham South, was a neighbour of the Booths in Fairford Close, Highbridge.

Mrs Parsons told the Weekly News: “Christine helped me get involved in politics and she and Ron were great friends.”
