POLICE are warning van owners to be on guard after a spate of catalytic converter thefts.

Sgt Ian Kennett said four devices, known as ‘cats’, were stolen on Sunday in the Burnham and Highbridge area, with Mercedes Sprinter and similar vans targeted.

He said: “Catalytic converters are being stolen for the metal inside them, which is quite lucrative.

"We are making enquiries with local scrap dealers and are encouraging van owners to be vigilant and ensure they park their vehicles somewhere safe.”

If you see anything suspicious phone police on 101.
