ORGANISERS are hoping for a record number of entries at the 30th annual Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon.

Over 600 runners have already signed up for the race, starting and finishing at Somerset College on Sunday, April 7.

The route of the race, which regularly attracts over 1,500 runners, goes through the town centre, out to Norton Fitzwarren along the B3227, turning off through Oake and Bradford-on-Tone, joining the A38 at Three Bridges, heading to Bishop’s Hull and the finish.

Race director John Lewis said: “We’ll have lots of competitors from a whole variety of athletics clubs across the region, many of whom we welcome back year after year.

“We’re also very well supported by local people.”

As well as the main race, there are two fun runs around the college grounds – 1,400 metres on hard ground or 2km including a section on grass.

Entries can be made on the marathon entry form, but not on-line, and will be taken on race day at Somerset College.
