Speedwatch launched for Stogursey, Shurton and Burton
POLICE have responded to concerns about traffic heading to Hinkley C - if and when it goes ahead - by helping people from nearby villages set up a community speed watch scheme.
Villagers in Stogursey, Shurton and Burton have said speeding in the area is a concern.
They have now been given speed checking equipment to slow motorists down, and will be supported in using it at peak times by police officers and staff.
St Steve Crago, from the Hinkley policing team, said: “Residents are becoming increasingly concerned about the amount of traffic expected at the Hinkley C development, should planning go ahead.
“This is an excellent example of empowering local residents to police their own communities.”

If you see any of these idiotic old codgers with too much time on their hands sporting a hi-vis vest and a poorly calibrated speed gun, take the following actions:
Knock it down a gear
Put your right foot down
Turn up the volume
Wind down the window
Pay due respect to the silver vigilante.

I seem to recall speed monitoring was carried out in Shurton and there were some stupid speeds for those roads - will have to see if I can find the info.

That is a bit different from a wannabe blue rinse vigilante jotting down number plates on the back of a fag packet and sending them off to the old bill.

Hang on, one could think that statement is just a hair breadth from endorsing vigilantism!
