Ballet dancer Millie takes centre stage
5:00pm Sunday 17th February 2013 in Somerset
TALENTED dancer Millie Lanham is set to dance with a nationally acclaimed professional ballet company.
Millie, 11, who attends Buckland St Mary Primary School, was offered the roles of Charm Dancer and Kitten in Sleeping Beauty.
She will take to the stage at the Weston Play-house Theatre alongside principal dancer Amy Drew and six other dancers of international standing.
Millie gained a place in the EYB at an audition in November attended by more than 150 of the region’s most talented young dancers.
Sleeping Beauty is at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare for three performances from March 8-9.
The cast of 81 dancers is working with professional dancers in rehearsals at Clevedon School.
Australian principal ballerina Amy Drew said: “The young Somerset dancers we are working with have great energy and attack.
“Working in a professional environment gives the students a unique insight into life in a ballet company.
“Millie is so lucky – I wish there had been something like EYB in Australia when I was training.”
Millie trains with Trull School of Dancing when not rehearsing with the EYB.
