A SPECIAL breast screening machine at Musgrove Park Hospital is one step closer to reality after Olympic BMX star Liam Phillips presented a cheque for £3,000.

The OSNA Fund has already raised £35,000 towards the £75,000 machine which can detect cancer cells in lymph glands after an operation in minutes rather than days.

The machine in place at the moment can take up to a week to give results back to patients.

Liam, from Burnham-on-Sea, said it is a fund close to his heart as his grandmother was treated for breast cancer at the hospital.

Breast Surgeon Jasper Gill said: “It will make a huge difference to the ladies in Somerset with breast cancer.”

The fundraising team are holding a launch party at Cosy Club in Taunton on Wednesday, February 6, at 7.30pm if you want to show your support.
