Iconic Rockwell Green towers to be auctioned off
7:00pm Thursday 24th January 2013 in Somerset
TWO iconic towers near Wellington are up for grabs... and they could be yours for £25,000.
The grade II listed Rockwell Green water towers, which are a landmark, will be auctioned off in February, offering a Grand Designs-style conversion.
Wessex Water is selling off land and property after a review into its redundant sites.
Estates manager Nick Routh said: “The Rockwell Green towers can be seen from miles around.
“This sale presents a rare and exciting opportunity for a potential purchaser to explore alternative uses, which may include a residential conversion.
“The towers have been out of service for some time as the way we supply water to customers has changed to meet the growing population and to operate more efficiently.”
The towers are among 22 lots going under the hammer at Taunton Racecourse on February 25.
Believed to have been built in 1885, they have a guide price of £25,000.
Other sites on sale include covered reservoirs, springs and areas of conservation, with potential residential building plots.
Chris Baxter, of Bradleys Estate Agents, said: “As with all previous auctions we expect a high degree of interest from buyers looking for land or property assets, especially as many of the lots have the potential for alternative uses, subject to planning.”
