THE owner of a business which has been a familiar sight in the village for more than 25 years has been forced to shut up shop for health reasons.

John Slade, 67, bought Motorline – which sold car parts, accessories and tools – 12 years ago when he and his wife Sandra moved from Wiltshire after ten years of enjoying a holiday home in this area.

In 2009, Mr Slade was involved in a life-changing accident, suffering brain damage which has ultimately prompted the shop’s premature closure on December 31.

He said: “I had planned to retire in three years, but this has been forced upon me because of my health.

“I am going to be concentrating on getting treatment now.

“The shop gave me nothing but enjoyment. We had such loyal customers – some even became friends.

“I would like to say thank you to all the people who have supported me in business and personally, especially since my accident.

“I am sad to see it go, as I am to see independent shops across the area close one by one.”

Mr Slade is also known for transporting people to weddings and proms in style and is unsure whether he will be able to continue with this.
