Sweet Shack's Kirstie supports firefighters after parents' home is damaged in blaze

A SWEET shop owner whose parents were forced out of their home after a devastating fire over Christmas is supporting a firefighters’ charity.

Dave and Julie Isom spent two weeks with their daughter, Kirstie, after the fire at their house in Highbridge Road, Burnham, on December 20.

The fire started in an upstairs study and spread through the loft hatch into the roof, causing massive damage.

Kirstie, 32, celebrated the opening on Saturday of her shop, The Sweet Shack in Burnham’s High Street, by holding a raffle for The Fire Fighters Charity.

She said: “Saturday went really well. We were very busy and the raffle raised £283.
“I’m going to top that up myself so I can present a cheque for £300 to the charity next Wednesday.”

Kirstie said the whole community had rallied round her parents after the fire.

She said: “The fire caused a lot of damage but everybody in the community has been brilliant.

“Mum and Dad stayed with me for a couple of weeks and then a local resident, who has a holiday let opposite where they live, has let them stay there for free.

“Mum and Dad are doing fine now and they’re fully insured.

“Because of the Christmas period there have been delays in getting things done but the re-building work will start on Friday."
