Bridgwater Library re-opens today
A PACKED schedule of events will mark the re-opening of Bridgwater Library this week.
The facility, which was closed since early December, opened its doors again this morning (January 14) after refurbishment and will see library tours throughout the day, a performance by a choir, job club and poetry readings by children from Bridgwater College Academy.
Many of the fun activities taking place this week will continue on a regular basis. Weekly events include story times for children and job clubs to help the unemployed find work. Monthly activities include adult reading groups, a children’s craft club, an ancestry club and ‘knit and natter’ sessions.
David Hall, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for Library Services, said: “The many regular activities are a real asset for the local community, from fun things like an ancestry club and jewellery, to really practical support for people looking for work and adults improving their reading skills.”
Part of the refurbishments also included the introduction of self-service technology. Staff will help library users issue and return books, DVDs and other materials for themselves using touch-screen kiosks. A library membership card and PIN (Personal Identification Number) is needed to use the kiosks.
For more information about events during the reopening week and beyond, call in at the library and ask a staff member or visit www.somerset.gov.uk/libraries.
