POLICE launched a search for a missing horse rider in Nether Stowey today (January 12) after a horse was spotted saddled up but riderless.

The alarm was raised this morning by a walker who saw the horse running past, leading to fears the rider had fallen off.

However, officers have just announced the rider has been found uninjured.

A police spokesman said: "Our enquiries have now accounted for both horse and rider and no one has been injured.

"Thank you to everyone for their concern and assistance while we looked into this incident.

Earlier, a police spokesman said: "At 10.30am today a member of the public was out walking when a Hunter-sized horse ran past.

"It was saddled up but had no rider with it and was travelling from the direction of Woodlands Hill towards the Free Lords area.

"The member of the public spent some time walking back in the direction the horse had come from but could not find the rider.

"The incident was reported to police shortly after 11.30 by the member of the public.

"We are conducting enquiries to locate the horse and check that the rider is safe and well and has not got into difficulties while out riding."
