THE head teacher of a Bridgwater secondary school says it will soon be “outstanding in every respect”, following the publication last week of its latest Ofsted report.

Following a visit by inspectors in December, Ofsted has published a report which says that overall, Chilton Trinity “requires improvement” because students do not make consistent enough progress in some subjects, but the school was praised in many areas.

Ofsted said students behave well, feel safe and value the “caring community atmosphere of the school” and there is a strong team spirit among staff.

It also praised the leadership of senior managers, governors and new head teacher Lesley Greenway.

She told the Mercury: "We believe that in the near future Chilton Trinity will be an outstanding school in every respect. So much of what goes on here is already outstanding - we just need our results to be consistently outstanding year on year and for students to believe that they can achieve even more than they ever thought possible.

"Ofsted recognised that the changes that have been made are already making a difference and that 'the school is moving forward and making rapid improvements to teaching and learning and, consequently, student achievement, in lessons'.

"We are all delighted by some of the encouraging phrases included in the overall report.”

Ofsted said one particular area the school could improve on was ensuring students make consistent progress across different subjects.

Its report said: “Achievement is particularly strong in English and science, but not as strong in design and technology and history.”

However, it also acknowledged that “results in 2012 improved dramatically with 52% achieving five or more A* to C grades, including English and mathematics.”
