Video: Driver collects two bags of rubbish from motorway near Bridgwater

A clip from the video. A clip from the video.

A FRUSTRATED motorist has made a video showing the amount of rubbish he collected from the side of the motorway near Bridgwater.

Simon Owens, from Dorset, stopped at junction 23 to collect two bags full and posted a video on the internet.

He said: “As I passed junction 23 northbound I was startled to see how much litter lay by the roadside there.

“So much rubbish is thrown from car windows. Hopefully litter pickers like myself can come together to clean up the British Isles as soon as possible.”

Thats right, clean up the roadside and leave a tatty sign there to add to the rubbish !

That is'nt the motorway in the pic only 2 lanes . I hope he never actually stopped on the Motorway - thats illegal :)

Rubbish on the roadside and plenty of worthless 'rubbish' walking the streets of Bridgwater. Get the two together and you would give one something worthwhile to do and the rest of us a better enviroment to live in!!

There seems to be no consequence for littering and very few who will say anything to those who they see littering. Bridgwater, at least in our area, is as trashy as any place I have seen and very few seem to care.

In answer to your comments so far...Cleaning up the Planet is a great thing to do with my life, I believe! I took the sign and rubbish home with me. recycled the trash and took it to the tip. And no, I didn't stop on the motorway, I parked in a lay by near by. Keep up with the comments. We could have a great debate on the subject!

Good work Simon Owens!

Nice to see someone be so proactive instead of just whinging/criticising other people's efforts!

Instead of criticising Mr Owens, why don't you criticise the arses who dumped the rubbish in the first place? Typical small mindedness we have come to expect from some people in Bridgwater.

Bearing in mind the fact this is some 2 miles plus away from Bridgy and adjoining the Motorway there is a pretty good chance that the rubbish was deposited by individuals with no connection whatsoever with Bridgy. Mind you this logic does not fit in with the image portrayed by the Bridgwater arse kickers on this forum!

I agree with you. Litter is a problem, at least 'I' think it's a problem(!) on all motorways, and many roads. I could have picked any number of junctions, and any motorway. It just happened to be the Bridgewater one that I passed and thought, hmmm, I'll clean some of that up.

Personally i would like to say thank you to Mr owens. I live at a junction where motorists tend to think it is acceptable to throw out their Mc donalds cartons, drink bottles etc, and each morning i pick them up because it makes the area around my property look unsightly. No matter what area of the uk we may live in, more people need to take pride in their surroundings, and dispose of their litter properly.

Agree, and thanks for the thanks! It's one of those things, although we would like people to stop dropping litter, the more people that we have who have the courage and gumption to just start picking up all the litter, I truly believe the quicker the problem will be solved. Big problem I know...but if we don't do it, who will?! I know you shouldn't have too, and I assume it makes you angry to have too but good on you for doing something about your area. I hope we can get a lot more people on board.

Its lucky it wasn,t you getting picked up off the motorway, thats a very dangerous place to pick up rubbish.

Appreciate your concern(!) but it really wasn't particularly dangerous. I was on the left hand side, didn't cross the road to the reservation area and was wearing a High Viz. Granted, cars were accelerating but I stayed on the grass. Any vehicle projection would almost certainly have gone towards crash barriers and I was nowhere near them. I am not going to risk getting knocked down for pieces of litter.
