A MAN was knocked unconscious during a robbery in Crewkerne on Friday.

The robbery took place at 1.30am when the victim was walking home. The attack happened when he was crossing a raised grass area at the junction of Tower Hill Road and Barn Street and was hit on the back of the head.

The assault knocked him unconscious. His wallet was found by a member of the public and returned to him, but cash was missing.

A police spokesman said: "An investigation has begun and we would particularly like to speak to the member of the public who returned the wallet to the victim as they may have important information which could help us."

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or knows who may be responsible should contact police on 101.
