POLICE have revealed that a man is receiving treatment in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol after being seriously assaulted in Ilminster last night.

A police spokesman told the News that they received a call from Yeovil District Hospital at around 10pm last night to say that a man had been brought in with 'serious head injuries.'

The man was later transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol where he is still receiving treatment.

A narrow lane off the main road through the town has been taped off, while directly opposite an alleyway has also been sealed off.

A police officer who was at the scene told the News at around 7am that he was unable to give any further information.

Police have already appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. People can phone local police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
