EXCEPTIONAL youngsters have wowed judges at the Rotary Club of Minehead’s Young Musician of the Year Competition.
Performances covered classical, jazz and modern music using a variety of instruments, including guitars, flutes, trumpets and violins.
Pianist John Knight from West Somerset Community College won the senior category for youngsters aged 14 to 17, with violinist Sian Ellen from Richard Huish College, Taunton, coming second.
The intermediate winner, for 11 to 13-year-olds, was trumpeter Joseph Lintern from Minehead Middle School.
Rotarian and head judge David Yates said: “It was a lovely evening of music making and very difficult to pick a winner.
This is the first time the event has been held and now established I am sure it will go from strength to strength.”
Rotary Club president Barrie Harban added: “Minehead certainly has a wealth of musical talent in its young people. What a wonderful evening of music.”
