A MAN walking home from Asda in the early hours needed hospital treatment following an unprovoked attack in the early hours.

The victim had left the store in Creechbarrow Road, Taunton, at around 3am today (Tuesday, December 11) and was approached by two men in the underpass leading to Alfred Street.

They struck up a conversation with him before one of them swung a bag with a heavy item inside and hit the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The man was then assaulted and later needed treatment at Musgrove Park Hospital for facial injuries. Police say the two assailants are white males, aged 17 to 22, and were wearing casual clothing.

Insp Stuart Bell said: “This was a serious incident that thankfully is extremely rare in Taunton.

“This incident was isolated, occurring at 3am, and will not be tolerated.

“We have excellent lines of enquiry and our officers will be relentless in identifying, and bringing these individuals to justice.”
