AN AIR cadets group in Bridgwater is seeking the next generation of members to save it from closure.

The Air Training Corps 65 Squadron, based at the Cadet Training Centre near the YMCA in Friarn Avenue, needs more members and adult instructors.

Les Jones, treasurer of the group, told the Mercury: “Myself and my wife have stepped in to keep the group afloat because it really would be a shame if it petered out.

“I was an ex-air cadet and I’ve been in the Marines and Air Force. About 80 to 90% of what you are trained in the cadets is what you are trained in the air force so it makes it a lot easier for people who want to join the forces.

“The training also teaches life skills and how to look after and present yourself. Having it on a CV is very impressive.

“It gives young people, aged 13 and over, something to do and they make friends and get to socialise with people who have a similar interest.”

The club is seeking adults under 55, with or without military experience, who are interested in becoming volunteers. Young people aged between 13 to 18 are also welcomed.
