The Limes delighted with care report
STAFF at a care home says they are delighted to have turned a corner after a scandal involving a former manager caused headlines for the wrong reasons.
Bosses at The Limes Residential Home, in Church Street, say staff have been working incredibly hard to rebuild its reputation since ex-manager Angela Brewer was jailed for two years in 2010 for stealing £120,000 from an elderly resident.
The Limes has welcomed its latest report from the Care Quality Commission, which says the home is meeting required standards for treating people with respect, meeting residents’ needs, staffing and quality of management. In all, the report gave the home the thumbs up for 15 of the 16 assessment targets.
Care home owner, Hazel Thomas, said an inspector who visited last month told staff that of the last 40 homes she had visited, The Limes was the best.
Hazel said staff were delighted with the CQC report and she praised manager Nikki Shayler for her efforts.
Hazel said: “She has had to work especially hard to recover the reputation of the home, and the inspection report shows how much she has achieved.”
The one area highlighted for improvement in the report concerned some of the home’s fixtures and fittings.
The CQC said three rooms had damp on the ceilings, while one resident had complained their door was very heavy and they struggled to open it independently.
