STAFF from a Highbridge primary school have raised about £1,000 for a cancer charity to support their friend.
Linda Britton and 16 other staff from Churchfield Primary School dressed in purple and completed their ‘50 Shades of Purple’ evening walk last Friday in aid of the Ovacome charity.
The group embarked on the challenge after learning that their colleague and friend, Sharon James, was undergoing intensive chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.
Linda, who organised the walk, said: “I would like to thank everyone who supported us and took part.
“Sharon told me she is halfway through her chemo treatment and said the whole event had given her a huge boost.”
The group released Ovacome balloons for anyone affected by Ovarian cancer and thanked Sentiments in Burnham for reducing the cost of helium and Tony Sainsbury for buying it.
The money was split between Ovacome and the Oncology and Haematology Unit at Weston Hospital where Sharon is having treatment.
