From Chard to Borneo...

Kieran Riste and Diana Briggs, supporters of the Orangutan Appeal UK charity, have just returned from a two-week holiday in Borneo.

Before the holiday they raised money at Chardstock Street Fair for the charity which supports the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah, in the north of the island.

“We were privileged to visit the centre on our trip and with the help of local people and generous donations from businesses we raised a fantastic £400 for the charity,” said the Chard couple.

Diana said: “We were lucky enough to end our trip with a three-day stay at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort, home to the Orangutan Nursery, run by Sepilok, which raises baby orphaned orang-utans.”

Kieran added: “The orang-utans stay at the nursery for the first stages of their rehabilitation and then continue the process at the rehabilitation centre in Sabah.

“We hope our visit will help to raise awareness of the Orangutan Appeal UK charity and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us at Chardstock Street Fair.”

When they went to Borneo they remembered to take their copy of the News, so they could be featured in our regular News in the World feature. If you go away on holiday, take your copy of the News, have a photo taken with it and send it to us via e-mail at newsdesk@chardandilminster.news.co.uk along with all the relevant information.
