Newton Abbott man murdered landlord with frying pan
9:16am Tuesday 11th September 2012 in Devon
A Newton Abbott man has been found guilty of murdering his landlord with a frying pan.
Paul Drury, 32 received fatal head injuries when he was beaten with the pan by Bryan Harris at his house in Newton Abbot last November.
Harris, 45, of Valley Path, Newton Abbot, told Exeter Crown Court he lashed out when he found Mr Drury having sex with his girlfriend.
D/Supt Keith Perkin said: "Following today’s verdict our first thoughts are with the family of Paul Drury, his mother, father, sister and brother. Not only have they had to endure the manner of Paul’s premature death in such a violent manner in November 2011, over the last two weeks they have had to re-live that experience.
"Brian Harris is a violent man and during this trial it is an image that he appears to enjoy. However Harris targets vulnerable people and in this respect Brian Harris is a coward.
"As I said at the outset, our thoughts are with the family of Paul Drury, and following today’s verdict I hope they can be comforted that he and they have received justice for his unnecessary death."
Harris is due to be sentenced today.
