IT’S not all about walking dogs and cuddling cats, an animal charity in need of pet-loving volunteers has said. The Blue Cross in Tiverton is appealing for supporters with special skills to help with the running of their busy rehoming centre.

They are particularly interested in finding a maintenance volunteer to help with general site upkeep, painting, mending, weeding, and housekeeping jobs; a cat photographer to come in one afternoon per week to take photos of the cats looking for new homes; reception volunteers to work at the front of house; post-rehoming support volunteers to call previous adopters, making sure their animal is settling in and liaising with the centre’s animal behaviour assistants if there are problems; and a fundraising coordinator to help with organising events to promote and raise money for Blue Cross.

Carly Ware, volunteer coordinator for Blue Cross in Tiverton, said: “People may think it’s all about walking dogs and cuddling cats, but in fact it takes so much more than that to keep a rehoming centre going.

“Even though these volunteers won’t be directly working with the animals at the centre, they will be helping them just as much as those who do.”
