Homeowners warned to beware of bogus callers

HOME owners are being urged to take extra care when answering the front door to prevent themselves from falling foul of bogus callers and distraction burglary.

The Consumer Council for Water has issued the warning against criminals who claim to be from the ‘water board’ or another recognised organisation, to gain entry to a home and commit a robbery.

Dame Yve Buckland, chairman of the Consumer Council for Water, said: “Bogus calling is a very disturbing crime because it deliberately targets vulnerable customers and can make victims feel at fault, making it even more difficult to come to terms with.”
