Exeter community centre gets much needed revamp
5:19pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in Devon
ST Sidwell’s Community Centre in Exeter has received a colourful makeover just in time for summer thanks to a donation from Dulux Decorator Centres, situated on Marsh Green Road.
St Sidwell’s, which opened in 2001, offers a safe, secure meeting place for vital community groups such as the Flying Start Children’s Centre and a parent and baby group. In just one day a team of volunteers, including students from Exeter’s University Action Team, managed to completely transform community rooms, the café, corridors and toilets at the community centre.
Dulux Decorator Centres provided the volunteers with a range of paints in fresh neutral colours and painting equipment, to re-vamp the décor, ensuring the centre’s new look appealed to all members. The donation was made as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme, after St Sidwell’s Community Centre’s general manager, Becky Howell, contacted the store. The scheme aims to help local community groups and charities restore their premises and surrounding areas.
Speaking about the paint donation, Becky said: “The centre was long overdue a makeover, as it was last decorated 10 years ago. However, we were conscious that we had to improve the appearance without disrupting our members who rely on the centre as a regular meeting point.
“Receiving the donation from the Colouring the Community scheme has helped to transform the centre and we are grateful for the paints and materials. We would also like to thank the students from Exeter University who helped us put the paint and equipment to good use and did a fantastic job.”
