A MAJORETTE competition in Tiverton has raised an impressive £1,460 for the Ryan Edwards appeal.

The money will help fund a ground-breaking treatment for Ryan, who is suffering with Neuroblastoma and has now exhausted all treatment the NHS can provide and must travel to Germany for the procedure.

It is hoped enough money will be raised from fundraisers and events to allow Ryan to receive the treatment in September. Marie Maquire, of Diamond Twirlers, dreamed up the majorette fundraiser.

She said: “I had the idea through my involvement with majorettes and my personal involvement with the family. I contacted Judith Cross of Tiverton Town Major-ettes and she in turn got in touch with Sylv White from Tiverton New Generation Majorettes, making it a local venture.

“We all three set ourselves a challenge to get as much as possible donated to the event to raise the maximum possible.

“Uplowman village hall donated the venue, the trophies were donated along with a massive amount of draw prizes, including the star prize of a weekend away in a log cabin won by Yvonne Dale of Dulverton.

“A huge thank you must go to Headkandi, Lloyd Maunders, Impact Print, Tower Trophies, Makro, Exeter Locksmiths and all the businesses of Tiverton which gave the prizes too numerous to mention individually.”
