Olympic legend comes to Torbay

OLYMPIC long jump legend Bob Beamon will be visiting Cockington Court on Sunday, July 22 to help promote arts across the Bay.

Bob smashed the Olympic long jump record in 1968 with a jump that is amoung the great Olympic moments of all time. Since retiring from sport he has followed his passion for art and is president of the Art of the Olympians organisation..

The organisation, in partnership with creativetorbay.com and Torbay Council will be exhibiting 20 unique pieces of work by ex-Olympic artists at Cockington Court this summer. The exhibition is part of Art, Sport and Play on the English Riviera 2012.

The exhibition also includes 83 free things to do over 37 days, a secret postcard exhibition and display of the Torbay 1948 Olympic archive. The exhibition organisers are proud to welcome Bob to the Bay who will officially open the exhibition on Sunday, July 22 at 4pm.

Bob will be attending with his wife Ronda and Art of the Olympians co-founder Cathy Oerter who started the organisation with her late husband Al who won an astonishing 3 Olympic Gold medals in the discus.
