People of all ages are being invited to Torbay's Cockington Court this summer to enjoy a huge range of free activities as part of the cultural Olympic celebrations.
Torbay Council has been working with Creativetorbay.com and other partners across the Bay to offer 83 free activities from Zumba and Thai Chi in the new outdoor gym area, to arts master classes with artists from the Devon Guild of Craftsmen from Monday, July 23 to Sunday, September 2.
There are also play activities for children as well as storytelling sessions, poetry, singing, futuristic fashion making and kids animation to name just a few. Alongside the free activities there is also an exciting exhibition inside the Kitchen Gallery including inspiring work by ex-Olympic athletes such as the famous Bob Beamon and Florence Joyner - athletes who after their sport careers turned their hands successfully to creative pastimes.
This unique exhibition is premiering in the UK and has been brought to the Bay in partnership with the Art of the Olympians organisation which is based in Florida USA. Those visiting the gallery will also be able to see a display celebrating the Bay's rich Olympic history including a variety of memorabilia and sporting treasures, an original 1948 torchbearer's torch, personal stories from local residents and an album of photos depicting the 1948 opening and closing ceremony at Torre Abbey and sailing races, as well as artwork created by schools.
There will also be 'secret art postcards' on display - more details being revealed soon. The full listings with times, dates and details can be viewed and downloaded at the Creativetorbay's website http://tinyurl/7tbcpaw from Thursday 5 July.
