New tenant found for Meadfoot Dive Centre

Torbay Council's economic development company, Torbay Development Agency (TDA), has secured a new tenant for the Meadfoot Beach dive centre as part of what it says is an "ongoing commitment to regenerating key sites throughout the Bay".

The Council owned asset remained unoccupied for several years, but after what the council says was careful marketing, planning and collaboration between TDA and the private sector bidder, the premises is now reoccupied and the new 'Big Blue Dive School' is open for bookings.

The new tenants are internationally renowned dive school operators, James Doddrell and Michael Byfield, the two men behind the Wreck the World - HMS Ark Royal project. The two experienced divers put together a strong bid for the premises, indicating a firm intention to work closely with local schools and colleges to get more interest in marine biology and conservation.

Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver said: "It's encouraging to see continual interest in the Bay's prime beaches as a top location for marine activities & education. It's hoped that through ongoing planning and consultation with private sector investors, we can continue to regenerate Torbay's beaches with new and exciting activities for both residents and visitors alike."
