County Council's new chairman announced
5:00pm Sunday 3rd June 2012 in Devon
DEVON County Council's new chairman is Crediton farmer Cllr Jerry Brook.
Outgoing Chairman Jeremy Yabsley handed over to the Council's new Chairman, Cllr Jerry Brook.
Cllr Brook, voted onto the County Council as local Conservative Member for Chudleigh Rural in 2005, has served on many of the Council's Committees, most notably as the Chairman of the Council's Farms Estate Committee, where he has successfully driven change in modernising the estate and promoting new farming businesses.
His other appointments include membership to the Council's Teignbridge Highways and Traffic Orders, Corporate Services Scrutiny, Place Scrutiny, Public Rights of Way, Investment and Pensions Fund, and Teignbridge Locality County Committees.
Councillor and farmer Jerry Brook lives in Crediton. He thanked Councillors at the meeting today for his appointment as Chairman.
"I warmly welcome this honorary position, and would like to thank everyone for their support."
Cllr Jeremy Yabsley told Councillors that the past 12 months have been an honour and a privilege.
"It has been an amazing year. We have attended some 126 official events on behalf of Devon County Council. Many of them have been memorable and moving occasions, in particular the military parades, such as the Heric 14 event in Exeter.
"The many events at schools and with children were a particular joy as were the occasions involving our county’s voluntary organisations."
