11:40am Tuesday 15th May 2012 in Devon
A fun-filled day of activities for all the family has been organised on Torre Abbey Meadow to help celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Torbay on Sunday.
The event has been organised by Torbay Council as part of the Herald Express loveLIFE campaign and will include a huge array of activities including Zumba, free running, wheelchair dancing, sky art, table tennis, football and karate to name a few.
Cllr Jeanette Richards, executive lead for tourism and environment, said: "There is a great air of excitement surrounding the arrival of the Olympic Torch here in Torbay and we wanted to make it a real day of celebration.
"The event promises to capture the ethos of the Olympics by encouraging our local residents, both young and young at heart, to take part in some sporting activities, many of which they may never have seen or heard of before.
"There will of course also be the opportunity to see some of the professionals at work. "Those attending will then be perfectly postioned to see the Olympic Torch pass along Torquay seafront at around 4.15pm."
There will be something for everyone regardless of their level of fitness, agility or stamina The celebration will take place from 1.30pm until 5.30pm and will include Zumba with Paul Harrison, free running, sailing sessions, football, spinning, Sky art, BMX, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, rowing, cricket, bowling, wheelchair dancing, internationally renowned biker - Andrei Burton, swimming, boxing, half price pitch and putt, tennis and bowls; archery, table tennis and Wild Earth Music on Corbyn Head.
