LANDLORDS with properties in Mid Devon can now – for a limited time - benefit from two grants to replace their tenants’ old boilers.

By combining Mid Devon council’s recently-launched Private Landlords Energy Action (PLEA) grant with the government’s new Boiler Scrappage Scheme, landlords may be able to claim as much as £900 off the cost of a new A-rated condensing boiler.

This represents one of the biggest discounts available to landlords anywhere in the country.

The PLEA scheme, managed by Energy Action Devon, offers landlords £500 to install or replace an old boiler with an A-rated one.

Landlords and tenants can also benefit from up to £500 towards loft and cavity wall insulation, creating even bigger savings in fuel bills.

In addition, if the existing boiler is G-rated (or equivalent or worse), landlords can also apply to the government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme which is offering up to 125,000 households £400 towards the cost of upgrading their boiler to a high-efficiency A-rated one or a renewable heating technology.

A council spokesperson said: “Together, these grants represent an exceptional deal to landlords and the opportunity to drastically improve the energy rating of their rented properties.

“Furthermore, upgrading the boiler and installing insulation could also save the tenants as much as £400 a year on fuel bills, as well as creating a much warmer and more comfortable home.”

Both grants are subject to limited funding so potential applicants are advised to apply now to avoid disappointment.
