POLICE in Exeter are investigating a serious sexual assault on a 21-year-old woman.

The incident took place between midnight on Friday and 2am hours on Saturday beside the Mill on the Exe public house in the Millennium Bridge area of the city.

The victim met the offender in the centre of Exeter and walked with him to the area where he assaulted her.

The offender is described as being black, in his 30s, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, clean shaven and with his hair in small dreadlocks which came down to his ears.

He was wearing a dark puffa jacket with a hood, a green T-shirt with a scribbled motif on the front, dark blue trousers (not denim) and brown/beige shoes.

He may well have been in the Hole in the Wall/Timepiece area of Exeter earlier in the evening and have a silver car.

The victim is described as being white, of pale complexion, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build and with long dark hair in a pony tail. She was wearing a large camouflage padded hooded jacket.

DI Nick Reed said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen these two people together.

"In particular, we would like to speak to a person on the Millennium Bridge who is captured on CCTV at around 1am.

"This person had his/her attention drawn to the area where the offence took place and is seen to look a couple of times in that direction.

"We would like to talk to that person to find out what they heard or saw."
