THREE Mid Devon primary schools are among 1,142 across the country which failed to meet Government targets.

New league tables reveal the schools that missed the base target of 55% of pupils reaching Level 4 in national curriculum tests for English and maths.

The three in Mid Devon were The Castle Primary, Tiverton (53%), Bampton C of E primary (46%) and South Molton United C of E primary (46%).

Overall, Devon has risen from joint 60th to joint 49th out of 151 local authorities in the Government’s tables.
