A MAN arrested in connection with a fatal road collision in Exminster on November 6 has been charged with murder.
Alison Langton, a 33-year-old train driver from Dawlish, died as a result of the crash.
Since the collision the man has been detained in hospital and the investigation has been carried out by the force Major Crime Investigation Team, led by Detective Superintendent Steve Carey.
The man was released from hospital last Friday and taken to Heavitree Road Police Station for questioning.
Following interview and enquiries, Paul Steven Cox, a 33-year-old from Bovey Tracey, was charged with murder and refused police bail.
Det Supt Carey said: "Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have been investigating the incident and have been in regular contact with the CPS and the victim's family.
“This was a tragic incident which saw the death of a completely innocent lady”
“There has already been speculation in the national press concerning the incident but it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time due to impending proceedings”
“What I can say is that such incidents are extremely rare in Devon and Cornwall and that any tragic death is investigated professionally and fully. “This, of course, doesn't in any way diminish the loss felt by the victim's family and my thoughts and those of the enquiry team are with them today”
Mr Cox appeared before magistrates this morning and was remanded in custody to appear before Exeter Crown Court on February 27.
