AN ELDERLY man was the victim of an attack in Tiverton just two days before Christmas, but managed escaped unhurt.

The 57-year-old man was walking through the car park in the Market Walk and Pannier Market area of the town at around 9.15pm on December 23 when he was approached.

The other man then demanded money before the two were involved in an "altercation", Devon and Cornwall police have said.

A 31-year-old man from Tiverton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and released on police bail until March 2, pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have further information.
